Sea Hood Removal

Just wondering if anyone in the forum has removed the sea hood on a 1995, 40.5 I'd like to remove the hood to repair some damage to the top of the hood, replace the solar panel which is well beyond the repair stage with some new technology and service or replace the below deck sheaves.

I believe that the hood is cored and I want to replace the core with foam core. How much trouble is it removing the traveller.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Karl, I'm new to this forum and sailboats in general. I removed the sea hood on my 1995 40.5 a couple of months ago. it wasn't bad. the traveler comes up with the hood panel. you only have to remove the two outer counter sunk machine screws. The outer most is visible and the inboard one is under the pulley block. Remove the two screws holding the the outboard pulley block and the second screw is under that. also i think you have to take the screws out of the solar panel and be careful of the wire. it goes from the panel to inside the boat on the starboard side just forward of the line blocks.

Thanks Dan, still haven't been to the boat but will get the hood off when I get there. I'm going to replace the solar panel at the same time so will be cutting the old plug off and taping a line to it to pull the new wiring through for the new install.

I just had a modification done to mine in order to access turning blocks. I'll post it elsewhere.
