QUESTION ----------- 1) How would you compair a Catalinia 30 to a Newport 30 (1970-1980)(is there a best yr-model- 2) I have read that the Catlina 30 is for inland waters--HOW WOULD IT DO IN THE OPEN OCIAN - Say from Oregon -the Mouth of the Columbia to the Pudget Sound area in WA.//or to Hawaii ?? thanks Gordon

My Opinion
I would say that neither boat is suited to the uses that you suggest. Based on my recent visit to the maritime museum in Astoria, OR, the mouth of the Columbia is one of the most unpredictable and dangerous areas that you could come up with. People have sailed pretty much anything almost everywhere, but would I attempt the routes that you suggest in either boat, no. Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands are a different story and either boat would be fine.
