hello to all
I seem to be having what I think is an issue with my sea command raido vhf mod scv-7808 a us model raido.
My ? is why can I hear everyone, they can hear me key the mike but no voise will transmit, I have been told that if this is a US raido it will not transmit a Canadian sighnal, or I should find the button that changes it from trans mitting from US to CAN frequencys my hand held works fine but would like to use the on board raido at all times any suggestions would be great
thanks Fido

Not really sure about Canadian frequencies for vhf marine use, but was under the impression that the radios and identified channels are the same. The channel use would be different though. Can you hear your radio on the hanheld? There could be offset frequencies used in the great white north, eh, ( a little Canadian lingo) that transmit on one frequency and receive on another. I don't believe there is anything like this as a general rule though. I'll assume the radios are functionally the same and if that's the case, test it with your handheld. If it works then you know you need to mod your rig or get another. If you don't hear audio on your handheld, you either have a microphone fault, or your radio transmitter has a problem. Unlikely, but there may be audio mute switch, or accessory activated that disables the audio in the mic. Check your manual. I searched Google for your radio and didn't find anything. hopefully someone on here familiar with VHF radio use in Canada can explain any differences. Good luck.

US and Canadian channels are the same.

Good idea about a voice mute on the radio. RTFM, or else there is a defect.

I also think that there is no difference in Canadian vs. U.S. signals transmission / frequencies, etc. That brand - make is also one I've never heard of. If your VHF fails to work, then that is a safety issue. U have to be able to communicate in the event of an emergency to hail the C. G. or a sea tow. VHF radios are so cheap now, U can buy one from West Marine for $100 or even less. I recommend ICOM or the W.M. entry models, I've used both. U never regret buying safety gear that actually works, but you'll sure as hell regret not having it, & U can't go back & undue a roll of the dice!
