Sea Boots recommendations?

Hi All, I am about to set off on a four week delivery voyage from Grece to England, and have been advised I might need some sea boots for the Atlantic / Bay of Biscay passages... Any recommendations I should look at? Durability, Fit, and Dryness are at the top of my list...

I also need something packable as I'll be flying and am trying to (of course) keep my seabag as small as possible. (I wear a Mens US size 11.5 Wide, so I figure they'll be relatively big, regardless)

I have a set of neoprene "dive booties" from my wetsuit that I thought about using...and there is always the Old "Put-your-feet-in-some-Trashbags-over-the-socks-and-then-put-your-shoes-on-and-carry-on" school of thought. but don't want to do that unless forced to. :)

Anybody have any thoughts on this...I'm leaving in a week,(6-4-14) so time is of the essence.

Thanks for your indulgence...

Hi Sanford;
I made do for years with a pair of neoprene dive boots and my trusty nylon strap sandals (Chacho or Teva) and it worked great - two foot ware options in one kit. I keep eyeing those lovely dubarry seaboots, but I'm cheap, and in the end just pick up a pair of watermen's rubber boots at a local chandlery at the port of need. $20 euro maybe? Safe travels.

Now THATS a good idea I hadn't considered... thanks Gunni!

After 40 yrs wearing non breathing rubber boots, Sperry for over 30 yrs, I switched 4 yrs ago to breathable leather dubarry. No regrets. Worth every single penny. Ocean racing and cruising.

ouch! those cost almost as much as my plane ticket! :eek:

No one said this sailing thing was going to be cheap!

For a week of open ocean, do yourself a HUGE favor and get some quality waterproof, BREATHABLE sea boots. Dubarry probably best but the Sperrys OK if you are not going to be spending a life at sea.

I never sprung for the Dunbary's either. I probably would now if I were going offshore. None the less I'm temped to offer the following advice: Buy the best boots you can afford. Fill them with water. Insert your foot. Get used to it.
But I won't. Because keeping your feet dry is only half the issue. Footing is the other. Not all brands perform adequately on that front.
