Hi, When I get my new Mac 26M next month I would like to do some overnight trip,s. Has anyone ever used a sea anchor when they get too tired to sail? I might want to take a nap during the trip, hence the sea anchor. One more question. How much did it cost any of you with a M26 to have a Suzuki 50Hp motor put on, thats including the motor of course. Thanks sailors.

My Honda 50 cost me about $6000. It works real well. Except for the control cables hitting on the rudder connecting arm. I installed ultraflex cables after one broke.

sea anchors

You will still drift with a sea anchor out. They are used to reduce your drift and keep your bow into the wind. They are easy to sew/ make your self. However, I would anchor for a nap, unless way out at sea, which I doubt I would be on a Mac. I carry one for use in storms, when it is too deep for an anchor, (I carry 0nly 200 ft. of anchor rode and 20 ft of chain) and they also can be short lined off a stern cleat to reduce the hulls sailing back and forth while on anchor. I've also seen a sea anchor with a weight attached to the pointy end lowered into the water, and slung off the boom, which was secured off one side, to reduce rocking at anchor.

Depends

The sea anchor or even a drogue will let you get 20 minutes, an hour, three hours of sleep but it depends on how much wind, how much current, direction of each, and how close to shore or other marine traffic. You have to plan on all those things to be safe.

Sea Anchor

Just got a new 26M last month - paid $6495 for 50hp Suzuki 50HP installed - nicely done. The sea anchor is really intended to keep the boat headed into a heavy sea as a storm survival technique when far off shore. On a very light boat like the 26M it can serve to dampen the motion somewhat when drifting and will reduce downwind drift but will take you with the current faster than w/o the sea anchor. Several other safety factors to consider if you intend no lookout during nap. Ken - Master Mariner Oceans.

Suzuki install

Cockneyboy - had it installed by Otho Campbell of New Millennium Sailboats. He did it in PA before he delivered it to me in VA. -- I'll ask him where and let you know. Cheers
