What have you "guys" used to replace the original Cherubini scupper hoses? Today, whilst installing a new exhaust hose, I found(luckily) a leaking scupper hose. It is the kind that has a hard wire hose with mated smooth ends for attachment to the thru-hulls. That "mate" separated at the thru-hull on the starboard waterline. I happened to move the low spot of the hose when I noticed water running down the hull. So off to WM for the third time today. Only the part that looks best(358624), Series 250 Shieldflex, is no longer being stocked. So I bought two feet of the Series 140 bilge hose that has wire but seems thin. It is recommended for above-the-waterline applications. It is temporary but I needed something fast in the event of rain. Two feet does not go down and through the bulkhead and back up like the original. And why did the original? What is wrong with a direct shot?

Hoses

Hi Ed, I replaced mine with the same hose that was used for my head hoses. It's a heavy white hose that doesn't have wires in it but it seems to have a plastic reinforcement in it. It's a little hard to maneuver through the tight spots but it should work great.

Where does that hose run

Ed, Are you refering to the cockpit drain hoses? Don't the scupper hoses drain down from the deck? John Brecher

Heavy white sanitary hose

Ed, I used the white sanitary (Head) hose from BoatUS 2 years ago. I wanted to use a hose that had a smooth interior to allow good flow. They are difficult to install on the scuppers, use liquid soap and a lot of elbow grease. I re-installed like they were, crossed, down and up. Can't tell you why they were installed like that originally.

1.5" Fuel Line or Exhaust Hose

Hello Ed, Our 37C cockpit drain hose had been changed to a 1.5" black wire wound hose by a previous owner. I am uncertain as to whether it is a fuel fill hose or a marine exhaust hose as I could not see the labeling on the hose. Whatever it is it must have been a challenge to route as it has a very thick wall.

replaced mine

found leaks in the hose at the bottom of loop.Used poll vacum hose. Their is on pressure on the hose so why do you need wire in it? I don't understand the loops either.

Reason for cross over

I think I read that the drain hoses cross over from one side to the other because otherwise water would surge up into the cockpit when sailing hard. I guess for that reason those hoses should be treated like a below water line service, although probably not quite as critical as ones that are permanently below water.

Don't forget to double clamp!

If you are referring to the cockpit drains, definetly replace with below water line hose and double clamp both ends. I almost sunk my boat when one slipped off the cockpit side while under sail in the middle of Buzzards Bay!Sucked in the sea like a super vacuum when boat was heeling.I believe the criss cross works with gravity to prevent water from backing up into cockpit while under way.

Thanks, lots of. . . .

good info here. I think Lyn is probably correct, a lot less "gurgling" if the underwater outlet goes to the high side. And the loop will trap water reducing any chance of noises. Still have not decided which hose to use. But for sure they will be double-clamped as are the present ones.
