Scummy sinks

A filmy scum is builing up on my sinks (kitchen and head). I use 409 to clean them, but not doing the job. I was going to use Kaboom, but it says not to use on aluminum (I assume they are).

Anybody got any good ideas?

They are more likely stainless. Comet, Ajax, Babbo etc. A good scrubbing with a good abrasive cleaner will do wonders to stainless. The more you scrub the better they look.

Does Babbo still exist?

Bar Keepers Friend is the product. Then you can use one of those SS polishes to seal it.

Scotch brite and dish soap with some elbow grease and potato power will do the job very nicely.

Often and acid cleaner like Shower Power is the solution to soap scum...

and calcium deposits. A degreaser won't do as much. It is good to have several types of cleaners on-board, and acid cleaners are good on rust stains and many types of corrosion. Shower Power is one of many products specifically formulated for soap scum.

I use soft scrub and then wax 'em with fleetwax. Lasts six months with weekly boat use.

I'm with Stu on the soft scrub, but I use a green scotch brite pad to boot. I did the kitchen sink a few months ago when I replaced the faucet and then followed it up with some rubbing compound and my Wife was amazed at the results.

Try it at home on the ss kitchen sink and surprise your wife with a shiny sink !!

A word of warning: if you spend too much time and energy getting your boat's galley sink (and head) to shine, you may be expected to perform the same tasks at home....

Ok, not to hijack, I have the same problem, except I have a very nice brass sink with the same problem. How will these solutions work with it?

Straight lemon juice works well on brass and bronze ... then followed up with a scotchbright pad. CocaCola has enough citric acid to almost equal the potency of lemon juice - a 'navy method' of cleaning bronze/brass.

Thanks, I'll give all of them a try. I've been hesitant to try any more physical means of cleaning it, and once tried a commercial cleaner on some brass, ended up having to sand and polish for days because it blackened it. Actually looked nice, but didn't fit with the rest of the brass so it had to go.
