What is with the world today. Over the last few days I have come across multiple instances of my copyrighted work being used without my permission and in some cases like this one COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF.

I suspect this is just a scam and he's using my work to steal and scam money from unsuspecting buyers..

MS. It's sad that so much of today society simply wants "rewards" with little if any work. We need to bombard their site with any and all disruption at our disposal.
Is any of your work copywrited or protected through your position on this site?

As much as I hate to say it, I think I would find me a scum sucking, bottom feeding, no morals, 100% shyster lawyer, and sue these guys into the next century. You can easily find plenty of witnesses from this site who would gladly testify whose work this is. Anyone who regularly visits this site will recognize your work.

Didn't even edit the "I's" out of it. I suggest the every member of the SBO family bombard this company with an e-mail a day (or an hour) using their "contact form" until they remove it. They'll have to spend hours just sifting through our emails to get to the real interested parties.

When you talk to them you might want to let them know that a cutlass is a sword or a former GM automobile and a cutless is bearing used on boats.

Except that "Cutless[SIZE=-1]®[/SIZE]" is now a registered trade name by Johnson Duramax the makers of the "Cutless[SIZE=-1]®[/SIZE]" sleeve, cutlass or marine bearing. Kind of like sailboard and Windsurfer[SIZE=-1]®[/SIZE].

I actually had this discussion with Duramax directly before posting that article as I did not want to infringe on a [SIZE=-1]® [/SIZE]trade name. I was told by Johnson that the commonly used generic name is cutlass or sleeve bearing and their registered trade name is Cutless[SIZE=-1]®[/SIZE] and that they own that name. I went with cutlass because that is what most everyone knows them by not sleeve or marine bearing, no need to further confuse.

Also a very large portion of vendors, including reputable prop shops, sell them as cutlass bearings so when folks go looking and type in cutlass they will likely get what they are looking for. By typing in Cutless you might tend to limit your self to the Johnson Durmax product. Morse and Buck Algonquin are also players though the BA product is made by Duramax at last check and they refer to their products as sleeve or marine bearings not Cutless because the name is taken.

For my article I wanted simple and most boaters understand what a cutlass bearing is despite the origins and legal ramifications around the term Cutless[SIZE=-1]®[/SIZE]..

MS I have worked in India a good bit a couple of years ago. Don't be surprised by this. They can out computer us on a heart beat. Not just because of this but because you deserve it taking your site private at a fee is reasonable. You have built the reputation and the site in the community. I really appreciate your work and approach. Where do I sign up. The Catalina 34 site does and it works very well and is supported.

Maine, You have my deepest sympathy since I have been ripped off before. I hope you find out soon who is doing this to you. There is more of this going on then many of you would suspect. Thieves, shysters and liars who will do most anything and never give it a second thought as long as they think they are getting away with it. Yup very successful marketing.... the took the common STAVE BEARING, added their name cutLESS and became the (well deserved because of their quality) the principal manufacturer + supplier .... still cutlass is a sword or discontinued GM automobile. STAVE bearing is generic. ;-)

Yep successful marketing, but try telling that to the thousands & thousands of boaters who also know it as a cutlass bearing because it is the term, right or wrong, that is now most commonly used. This is likely because Duramax owns the word Cutless.

There are thousands and thousands of hits for cutlass bearing most by vendors and prop shops who sell them. References to cutlass bearings can be found lots of places including;

Defender, Tacoma Prop, H&H Prop, Passage Maker Magazine, Hamilton Marine, Prop Scan, iBoats, West Systems, Pyacht, Beth Leonard & Evans Starzingers site, Nordhaven Yachts, Sabre Yachts, J Boat, David Pascoe/YachtSurvey.com, Vetus (actually a manufacturer), Tides Marine, AutoProp, Torresen Marine etc. etc...

I, mean, it sucks that MS has stuff ripped off... but I doubt that flaming S.S. would cause any change....
