Screw clamp port lights

My forward port lights (4) are leaking, I was thinking about opening them all and cleaning the black o rings and smearing some food grade silicon on them and gingerly adding tension then clamp! Any ideas? I’ll let you know if it does..

marine outlets are ridiculously overpriced for a neoprene or rubber port light gaskes. I removed one gasket and brought it to a local pool store a compared it to a few Hayward pool filter tank o-rings to match the diameter, after finding a comparable tank o-ring that matched the diameter I cut the tank o-ring to fit the port lights. If you do this make sure that where the ends of the o-ring meet glue the ends together with silicone or contact cement.
I did mine about eight years ago and used one pool filter o-ring and was able to do three port lights. I believe I paid about $20.00 for three o-rings and did nine port lights.

Thanks Captain but I have no pool supplies around so I will just have to go to west marine which is fine, do the O rings come cut to fit?

You can certainly try to clean the gasket/o-ring and add some super lube or equivalent. I try to clean mine and wipe some lube on them annually.

Might delay the inevitable. I replaced the latches on my Beckson hatches with plain old screw knobs and really like them better…easier to dial in the right pressure to keep the ports from leaking.

if you know the manufacturer you can probably get the from here. And a think the gasket material is also sold by the foot from defender

to these knobs from Amazon…


i much prefer the knobs,, but you do have to turn them more to get them to disengage from the port light.
