"Foresail furling tube

Riveted Assembly
Reliable riveted assembly requires no drilling, glue, or Loctite ™. Rivets cannot freeze, strip or back out. Foil can be easily removed and repaired."

Well I'm not sure what happened to my rivets but I think they are missing.

Witz
When you worked on your furling system did you do any replacing or removing rivits....I'm not sure which kind, size etc to use.

Factory has not responded......yet

Paul, since it has not caused any problems yet, I have not dealt with the issue.
My issue is a little different, the top cap is being punched off the top of the column from the swivel car being raised too far because the head sail luff dimension may be too long. We are planing on replacing the sails for next season and I will take a mesurment at that time to see whether just shortening the luff is the best way to solve the problem. Originally set screws provided the friction to keep it in place.

It would seem strange that with no rivets ever installed that it would take so many years to separate, but I guess as long as the insert does not slide down the fore stay, gravity would keep the sections together. Maybe they used set screws and they backed out, but that would take place over time giving you a hint of something amiss every time you raised and lowered you sail, (the car would catch on the rivets heads). Did this happen as a result of raising the head sail?

PaulJ, I have never had to mess with my Schaeffer 2100, but on my old CDI furler on my US27 after a hurricane I had to repair it and put it back together. One significant piece was on a couple of section joints the hurricane popped it around so violently it broke the stiffeners that joined each section and messed up the ends. I had to cut these back, file them smooth and replace the stiffeners and a few of the nylon bushings.

In the below link is an exploded drawing and it calls for 70 rivets so it looks like there are a few for each section. As the CDI did not use rivets to hold it's sections together (just gravity). Sooooo my guess is you just need aluminum rivets of the correct size. Perhaps you could get a sampling of rivets in different sizes and see which one fits (or substitute rivets for women and you have a dating guide ). You probably don't need to over engineer this.

After I took the 110 foresail down and checked the shackle, knot and rigging tape, then proceeded to raise the foresail I noticed this abnormalty.

Another reply from Schaefer this morning........

The 2100 uses #30-067 rivets and they are 316 s/s. I can put some in the mail to you, please provide a mailing address.
