Hunter 28.5 Mandeville
I have a 28.5 Hunter, 1987, with a Schaefer jib furler. I recently purchased a new genoa which apparently is an inch or two longer in the luff than the old one. There is room to run the furler up the halyard without hitting the top of the mast. Is there an adjustment that can be made to extend it slightly or do I have to get a very short piece of extension tubing?

What's an inch or two?

Just run it closer to the deck, you'll get more power as a result. Within a few minutes, you'll figure a way to see around it.

Already as low as it will go on the furler

The Genoa is already hoisted to the full extent that the furler will allow. The tack is attached to the lowest point on the furler. The problem is that furler is maybe a foot shorter than the head stay. There is room to extend the tubing so that the luff would be taut and I am asking if you can get a 1 or 2 inch extension for that tubing.

New extrusion

I'm not sure if the Schaeffer furler is the same in this regard as my Hood unit but for my Hood, you would need to buy another tube extrusion (the furler is made up of multiple extrusion pieces, each 5 ft or so long, joined together with splice pieces and rivets). The last extrusion piece at the top is cut to length to fit the boat. In your case you would likely need to remove the last extrusion piece and replace it with another that is cut a few inches longer. Of course you need to determine if there was a reason the old extrusion was cut where it was and not a couple of inches higher. Will the top swivel interfere with anything if it is higher? Will the lead angle from the swivel to the masthead sheave still be within equipment specs?
