Anybody have ideas how to restore a damaged area on an aluminum mast? Somehow about 2ft. right near the top got chewed up. Didn't notice it till we derigged and took our 216 home. Only thing I can think of is that during some wild weather our's and it's slip neighbor, an O'day, must have rolled and the masts slammed together. That ripped up section should be sanded smooth and then coated? With what? Boat's only a year old,so appearance is a factor. Help! Thanks!

mast repair

I have seen some older mast that have been repainted with algrip and have turned out very nice (look very classy)You could go this route or have the mast repair section re-alodized.However since this sounds like it may be "storm damage" you may want to check with you insurance carrier to see what they could do for you, especialy since it is only one year old.You may also want to check the mast for straightness and all the rigging and plates to be sure they are not damaged. It may depend on how sever the mast was damaged,if it was only cosmetic it could be easy enough but structial damage to a mast could be expensive. Just how badly is the mast "scarred/ripped up" depends on the repair.
