I bought a 1983 cherubini 27 with no engine, but the transmission still sitting there attached (only engine removed) and owner said that he threw out the engine for some reason.

He claimed it was a yanmar sb8 so i found a rare sb8 (with its own transmission) , rebuilt it completely to running condition and was about to install it when i realized that the last engine was a 1GM10.

So should i sell the SB8 (and probably the boat bc its hard to get a 1gm10) or can i mount the sb8 transmission and engine on the mounts where the 1gm10 was?

Will all four bolts align with the engine mounts on the older engine variant and if so, will the engine be too tall to fit under the stairs of the boat? (sb8 looks bigger than 1gm10 but i could be wrong.

Please help, thanks!

Take a look at www.dieselenginetrader.com. There's a guy in Wisconsin who has a rebuilt 1GM10 listed.

SB8 was the original engine

So the 1 GM10 was an upgrade. It is a smaller engine.

The SB8 will fit, but you will have to move the mounts. We moved ours going the other way, but don't know the details since we had the yard do it.

Good luck!

You have a great cruising boat! We've logged over 7,000 miles on ours.
