MD - UPPER CHESAPEAKE BAY - AIDS TO NAVIGATION CHANGE - SHARPS ISLAND LIGHT (LLNR 7960) DISCONTINUED Sharps Island Light (LLNR 7690) has suffered significant damage since the 1978-1979 ice season rendering the lighthouse unsafe for personnel perform any maintenance. The light has been extinguished since November 2007 and due to the structural condition of the lighthouse the Guard will not make any attempts to relight it. On or about May 7, 2008, Sharps Island Light will be discontinued as an aid to navigation. lighthouse will remain as United States property until its final disposition is determined. Warren you can view the historic coast pilots

here. http://nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/nsd/hcp.htm They have the coast pilot for the Chesapeake bay from the 1890's there were many lighthouses in those days.

You are right, Jim

I was "aground" at Thomas Pt Light last July. The Annapolis Maritime Museum (part of a consortium that now owns the light) ran a tour of this old beauty and so I did go "aground" there....and it was well worth it. No need to get Congress involved as they have enough on their hands at the moment...
