Saw some interesting boats last Saturday

The big one is a mega yacht anchored off Venice Beach.
Here is the background on it.
“Serene” is owned by Yuri Shefler, the CEO of Moscow based Soyuzplod Import. Soyuzplod is best known for its Stolichnaya and Moskovskaya brands of Vodka.
The yacht is more than 440 ft in total length and has close to 50,000 sq. ft of living space. It has seven decks, a hangar and two helicopter landing pads. It also has an “escape” submarine that can dive up to 100 meters deep.
Launched in 2010, the yacht was sold through Harrods of London for $320 million.

Must be nice. If gas goes any higher he can run it on vodka.

The other boat I believe belonged to Christopher Columbus. It looks like they are redoing the bottom.

Looks like they need to redo the top as well! CC would never have made it across in that guy! LOL

Isn't it fun and interesting to see some of these incredible boats and then research them?
In SD we've seen some really interesting huge boats...only to get some great details by looking them up. For example: Saw a boat out named Paraffin. We all guessed all day what it could mean and who would own it....... turned out its owned by the Yankee Candle people ...see details:

Saw this in Ft. Lauderdale last June...Sen. John Kerry / Theresa Heinz yacht. (sorry for the slightly out of focus shot). This was taken before the boat was taken back to RI. I hung around for awhile hoping someone would invite me aboard (one sailboater to another) but it never happen.

Here is one we saw in Florida... this is on the other end of the spectrum! Named "Tinkerbell". Hand made. Note the furling jib! It can be unfurled from the helm but has to be furled from the foredeck by hand. It took 60 days to make her. I thought it was very cute and inventive.

FAME

Fame, Dennis Connors new boat sitting down from us at Kohler Wooden Boatyard. It was really cool to watch them all go out for a race.Crew all very well dressed and sporty looking....(nothing like how we look while racing!!) with Dennis sitting on what appeared to be a box... his crew looked spiffy, he looked... well... Big! The boat is just gorgeous.

Ken: I think if you would have had a plate of hot french fries (pom frit) you could have asked if they happen to have any Heinz!:dance:
