SAVE THIS CLASSIC ODAY

OK - so I'm having a great day sailing my 23 on a beatuiful Narragansett Bay day. Suddenly my 13 year old daughter calls very upset that a very mean man from the town has just put an orange sticker on the house and he is demanding that I contact him at once. My daughter was scared to death but my 16 year old, 6 foot 3 inch tall son wasn't scared and chased him off the property. It seems that my land-loving neighbor does not share my love of old boats and he being related to the Mayor has gotten the zoning board to violate me for running a boat repair business out of my house. I tried to reason with the inspector, the zoning board and the Mayor, but did I mention that my neighbor is related to the Mayor. The bottom line is I either clear my yard of everything nautical by the 31st of this month or they are going to impound everything and charge me a $500 a day fine plus towing and storage fees. Have you ever heard the old saying "you can't fight City Hall" well it's true, especially in this town.

It's an absolute sin that such a beautiful boat is going to have to be junked unless I can find someone who wants to take her and refurbish it. If anyone knows of someone in the northeast that is looking for a great project boat please forward this link to them. I have placed an ad on this site and I'm only asking to recop some of my out-of-pocket expences. At $500 this boat is a steal for someone looking for a classic daysailer.

Get a lawyer and file for a restraining order or a stay

Take the the matter to a judge and demonstrate that yours is a hobby and not a business. And then make the place tidy and clean.

Curious Question

I see some photos with what looks like a house boat and another boat covered in the background. Is that your back yard? Some photos are obviously in a boat yard.

All photos from boat yard

All of the photos are from the boat yard when I picked it up. I did explain that it's a hobby and the boat is registered to me. But you have to understand how this little town works. I live in Rhode Island, one of the most corrupted states in the country. The onlt judge that I can see regarding the issue was appointed by this Mayor and I was told by someone in the know that it would be a waist of time and money. As for my yard, it's spotless and I work on and store everything for the boat in my shed. No, it's get rid of it or pay through the nose. I will say this, the second that the proporty values go back up I am selling this house and moving to another state. Someplace near the water and with a big back yard with no neighbors in sight.

Truly a tradegy?

Gee, Bill, I find it tough to take that you are making such an emotional appeal to save this elegant and historic vessel, yet you are SELLING to for $500. So, I guess the historic value is only $500, and if you don't get that, you're perfectly willing to let it be crushed? Holy Mackerel. Why don't you give it away, or better, subsidize its rescue somewhat, if you care so much?
