Going to be in Savannah for a few days soon.Anyone in the area know of a marina that would not mind a visitor walking the docks just looking at the boats. Also, any seafood restaurant recommendations would be appreciated.......good food, not the touristy trappings. Thanks in advance.

Sure Enough

Hey Bowtrash, If you want to avoid the River Street tourist trap restaurants, head out to Tybee Island. Before you get to the island watch on the right for a small sign, "Crab Shack". Follow the road and your there! Incredible seafood, fun atmosphere, great view of the marsh. The seafood platter is the best dish in the house. You will see Bullrun marina on the right (tall condo next door), before Tybee, but not much in sailboats. Thunderbolt Marina has some big sailboats (ICW stop) and a handful of good restaurants across the street. If you want to check out the "must eat places", then I would recommend the Pirate's House, only because of the atmosphere and its history. Food is fair, always a bit overpriced, but your paying to sit in one of dozens of rooms going back centuries where Pirates hung out and poor swabs were forced into a life of piracy. Its one of those, "I have to try it once" kind of stops. This time of year aside from the St. Patricks week insanity, the city isn't too overwhelmed with tourists. Their are some great eateries all around Savannah, just ask some locals. Most are just south of Bay Street on the side streets like the famous, "Lady and two sons" or "Misses Wilkes Boarding House". Savannah is a beautiful city.......so enjoy. Bob Lake Lanier Catalina 30

A couple decent places in downtown Savannah

But none so memorable that I can recommend them. But I will say ditto to the Crab Shack. I've been there once while in Tybee. Charleston is about the same as Savannah. I think our best restaurants are outside downtown in places like Mt Pleasant and James Island and the islands.

Marina and restuarant

Do both on the same afternoon. Sail Harbor Marina on Wilmington Island 618 Wilmington Island Road 31410 Tubby's Restuarant on River Drive in Thunderbolt. Both are in the same area, about 15 minutes apart.

Crab Shack on Tybee

Was in Savannah two days ago and went to the Crab Shack on Tybee Island- 4 of us had the broiled seafood platter and couldn't eat it all. Great food.
