I will be going to Savannah for a while, and would like information from someone that is there or has been there on the status of marinas, especially one that can handle a boat that needs 6 feet to float. Also, I understand Georgia is not fond of live aboards. Any first hand info is appreciated. Thanks...

There's a marina at Thunerbolt on the ICW a few miles South of Downtown Saannah. Nothing that I know of on the Savannah city Riverfront itself. I live on Hilton Head not far from Harbourtown, keep my H34 at a marina on the island. We did an overnight to SAV earlier this year. Hilton Head Island is beautiful indeed. Harbourtown as mentioned is beautiful, one of a number of marinas on HHI. Not the best for deep-draft boats on account of silting. If you're considering Hilton Head Island, I can give you more info. E-mail me at bgthiers@earthlink.net if interested. Good luck!

Savannah, Wilmington Isl.

I keep my boat at Sail Harbor on Wilmington Isl. It is on the wilmington river which is part of the ICW. Fairly close to the open ocean and I think they allow live abords. This is a remarkably beautiful area. Much less crowded than Hilton Head but close enough for an easy day sail. Dick Long is the owner/manager the no. is 912.897.2896 Travers

Great Food!

Can't help you with Marinas, but Savannah has fantastic restaurants. Try the Crab Shack - "Where the Elite Eat in their Bare Feet"! Also the Breakfast Club on Tybee Island.

Thanks to all!

I'm driving up this weekend for a "parrothead" b-day party and will meet with Mr. Long at Sail Harbor on Saturday. I spoke with him via telephone and will enjoy meeting him. Thanks again!
