Here I am again, for those of you who do not know about direct TV,I mount my 18" dish on my mast when I am docked,BUT HAVE TO REMOVE IT when sailing, the jib gets hung up on it. We get about 250 channels,7HBO,5 SHOWTIME,2,4,5,7,13,no 9&11 and everything that is available on cable, prices vary from 20-----80 beens. For live aboards it is great and even dailly sailors.

Boat TV

Have you considered reading a book...free, available at your local library. Or perhaps interacting with your fellow man (or lady) ...free. Why is TV so important in your life that you would go to this expense and trouble for it. Take up a hobby, build something, go scuba diving or sail a dinghy. I know you will go through withdrawal symptoms but you might see what you've been missing. A long time ago I took a course in Psychology, didn't learn much but they talked about Alpha waves and Beta waves. While watching TV the human brain simulates a zombie. I would assume drugs have a similar effect. So go cold turkey, start thinking, and have a good time.

Lighten up Dave

This isn't the Cruising World Forum where they jump all over you for expressing an idea that's not PC. Tom was simply telling us about an improvement he has made to his boat. Let's not drown out the free flow of ideas and discussion with lectures about personal opinions. Otherwise I might be forced to zombie out in front of the TV.

Satellite dishes

I apologize for my insensitive remarks. I wish Tom nothing but the best in his retirement and am incredibly greatful for his service to his country and the loss he suffered as a result. I'm a little sensitive as all around me on the docks satellite dishes are getting nailed to pilings with wires going everywhere, and generally it's people who weekend on the dock and never leave the dock all summer to actually sail. I've recently seen an antenna system that stays locked on a satellite even while under sail (or power) but the price tag is about $5500.00 Tom best wishes and please accept my apology! dave

DAVID LEWIS

I am most sure I said no hard feelings, and I realize what happened. If any one is outspoken it is me. I had my duppa reamed by da-boss-man for using all capital letters and I wrote something that was not acceptble, it would only be used on tv and in the movies and maybe in church, but not in dis-here-joint. So you see we all fly off the handle when we are full of s--oops bummies. By the way I spent a week it Mystic Harbor last summer--------nice place, the hunter dealer,Jeff Marshall. Had a problem when I was up in bear mt,called my dealer,no response, called Jeff and he returned in minutes. The boat was new and it was the fuel line glog, great guy. Eddie Breedan would have came up before my dealer would call. MCBUBBA720@AOL.COM TA-TA

Good thread. Tom, can you use it at anchor? Dave, My wife tells me I zombie out at the computer. I tell her , "If you can't sail you should atleast be able to talk about it. I enjoy about 90% of the conversations here. It is stimulating, enjoyable and I love the ever underlying humor. r.w.landau ps. Dave Lewis, if you don't have Nigel Calder, it is a good read.

The dish I have now can not be used at anchor, but if I get an automatic one ,you can use it at anchor or while sailing in bad seas. You would make a good referee
