I know this has been discussed many times before but as the technology is changing so fast I would like to hear about the latest information out there. I want to be able to stay in touch both via voice and internet while I'm cruising. In fact, my company is willing to equip me with the latest technology to stay connected while I am off shore so I can trouble shoot problems if they need me. So what should I get? Globalstar with the marine kit? Iridium? Or is there something newer and faster out there? I will be sailing mostly off the US coast and the Caribbean: Cuba/Cayman Islands/Jamaica/Bahamas. Thanks for any advice.

Iridium

Phiggins I think you'd be happy with Iridium. I've used satelite phones before and they are great!

Renting

I think I read that you can rent a satellite phone for $60 a week but I think you still have to pay per minute of use which I've seem quoted between 17 cents to 99 cents a minute. I think I will try to talk my company into paying for that when I go to Cancun this summer. It will be just a few weeks after we go live with a new computer system and I can use that as bate :)

Reason for sailing

Our lake has relatively poor cell phone coverage, that's one of its benefits. I sail to make sure that condition continues so that I can get away from the phone. I sail to get away from the office. ;)
