Hi All! Any thoughts on XM vs Sirius radio? one of the two seems to be the way to go for offshore sound, but I'd hate to buy and install the next betamax!

Just installed SIRIUS in my car.

Looked at both XM and SIRIUS. SIRIUS is $3 more per month but has no commericals on most channels and has more. I am planning on installiong one on boat. I love the ability to receive great music and better yet FOX News, CNN, ABC radio, and a host of other channels. GM owns XM so it is getting more advertisement. There is certainly room for two. I love mine and do not miss the unfunny DJ's.

XM in two cars and our boat

We installed XM in our Explorer and enjoyed it enough to also install it in my wife's VW Beetle. Recently, we purchased an XM boom box to take on our Catalina 30. Can't speak for Sirius, but we've been happy with XM.

Delphi SkyFi XM

XM had a deal (expired in the last couple of days) where you could purchase the SkyFi tuner and a home or car base unit for $99. I took advantage of it. Also bought a boombox last weekend. Love it so far, although we are surrounded by tall trees and I have trouble finding a spot for the antenna in the house. We have an antique home with plastered ceilings with a wire mesh, which doesn't help. In fact it only works on the terrestrial signal at home. I threw the boom-box in the car on Sunday with the antenna on the dash. There were a lot of dropouts as I drove around the neighbohood - almost predictable as I approached a clump of trees or tall building to the south. I understand a true exterior car antenna makes a big difference. Love the programming, although a lot of the channels are for a younger generation. I intend to take the tuner back and forth to the boat and install a permanent base on board. Questions: 1) Should I install a home or car base unit on the boat? Home unit requires 6v dc. I believe the antenna is different (2 cables on the car unit (satellite and terrestrial), only one on the home unit. 2) I already have an FM modulator on the boat stereo for the CD deck, and the XM discussion groups have criticized the Delphi FM modulator as being noisy and unrelaible. What to do? Can you put two FM modulators in series? I don't see why not. 3) Has anybody tried the marine XM antennas that are available, They cost more that the tuner! Derek
