I am looking at a great condition santana 2023, I believe the A model, 1994.

But in looking at pictures on the internet, some have jib cars, some have traveller's...but this one does not.

Anybody have any knowledge/experience of adding such items ?

It seems odd to me that some would not have either of these.

Are you're talking about the one listed on SailboatListings.com in columbus, Georgia? I'd tell them your concerns. They don't look very experienced..not showing any sailing pics of the boat . No traveler, not even twin mainsheets, which is how a lot of those boats were set up. Also, I don't see any winches, the sails are not displayed, the jib sheets barely reach the cleat. Nahhh... those owners are NOT sailors. They just motor around the lake... probably to fish. Look at the listing right above it. It's all set up, with traveler, jib lead track, vang etc,

Look at this 1980 model.... now you're talking... it's dialed in with plenty of upgrades....winches, spinnaker stuff, electronics, etc. Look for something like this... that's been sailed by someone who has loved it and used it.

That georgia boat.... If you're jonesing for the thing, lo ball them and say it's not fully equipped.it does not look ready for sailing in anything over 10kts. To install a proper traveler & track, jib leads and track, a couple of single speed standard winches, a soft vang, new proper length sheets and halyard.... (what about ground tackle) and a new mainsail, you'll spend at least 3 thousand plus your time to install. (there are no small boat mechanics, it's all you) No mention of vhf radio or navigation gear either. more $$$

That said, those projects are not difficult so at the right price, 2-3 k maybe, don't be misled by shiny and clean... anyone can wash a boat.

The Georgia boat is in nice condition.
I think I see winch pads there so adding winches is mostly a matter of buying them and installing.
I don't think a traveler is a necessity on a 23' boat and may in fact add clutter and make the cockpit less usable.
Jib tracks pale in importance if you consider that there is likely only one foresail. Adjustability is nice but generally under used. I'd be more concerned with how the jib sheets route to the cockpit. With a jib of 100% or less winches may not be necessary on the fractional rigged boat.
Look at the positives: A WD Schock pedigree. It is likely to sail well. Fractional rig. Large cockpit. Clean. A reasonable price. A nice trailer. I think it's a four stroke engine. Fiberglass foil shaped rudder and keel. A serviceable keel. A nice looking boat!

Thanks for both sides of opinions. I mean that. Its nice to have the balance. The boat was getting sailed without either of those. And its not the Georgia boat lol. Its a non advertised one.

That's nice to know. Just wanted to encourage you to expect a fully equipped boat if they are asking market price. Looking at lots of boats even those out of area, will help you to make the right decision. Good Luck on your search.

Let me just say, they didn't wash the boat lol....but I can see past that. Interesting indeed. If I get it I can always add those items as I go. But that comment regarding jib cars with one headsail makes sense. I have used jib cars to trim better based on how much wind. But then thats on a daysailer, so was surprised by their omission on a 23'. Bu they may have been added as hank on and previous owner raced and may have had several head sails.. good stuff in general here. Definitely not market, which us why it doesn't concern me that much.

And I called Schock, spoke to a very helpful woman there, but unfortunately knowledge of those specifics and parts are no Ionger. Sugested class associations if any exist may have suitable replacement advice. But the boat was sailing from purchase without, and no sign of them existing on the boat prior. Ie marks, filled holes etc.
