My wife caught onto all my hints and picked this us for me. I was thinking it came with the lines, but I was wrong. I also passed on the optional cam cleats as I have some track cleats I want to use instead. So here are my questions.

1. On the 310 what size line do I use and how much do I need?
2. Is it worthwhile using shock cord for the return, or would I be better off to use a 2nd line to keep control to pull the cars aft?
3. Does anyone mark their lines for favorite positions and how?
4. Do you alter your sail trim tactics with this? On the same vein are their any guidelines on this (e.g. move cars first then adjust sheet trim; or vice versa)?

The system is great. I've had mine for 2 years now.
I use no shock cord. No need for anything to pull the car aft.
The force of the sheets pull it aft.

Enjoy. You'll adjust them more often and safer.

After using the system for a whole season I really do like it. I pay a whole lot more attention to car position and sail trim (could be I am just starting to learn sail trim a lot more too). When pointing the cars definitely adjust themselves aft due to the force of the sheets. When running them forward for a downwind run they also help. Shell's advice was top notch; glad I listened and did not over engineer.

Re: Garhauer EZB-2UB

I tried shock cord and it is useless, the block will always slide back under tension. Instead of marking lines I mark the deck next behind each pin hole on the Genny track so you can always repeat. With the EZ car you can move the lead half a hole and always be right, don't worry about quick adjustments, you can't go wrong with these tracks.

Hmmm, maybe I do need pictures

Here is a factory picture. I will get some pictures of them on the boat.

It will fit the existing OEM track. All you have to do is pull off the end trim piece. They will send it to you on a short piece of track, just line them up, and slide it on.

There have been a few discussion about folks who did not follow this advise and the ball bearings fell out.

Valcour, In the picture it looks like you got the cam cleats for the end. Is that correct? I passed on them and so far have not needed them.

Re: Good Point

Yes I got the cam cleat option for a simple install. Where do you cleat yours?

Usually docking cleats on stern

I have thought about adding some cam cleats on my stern rail. The Garhauer cam cleat solution is pretty elegant, but on the Potomac you don't get to do a beam reach too often so when we do we so far have used the cleats on the stern. I did see an example set at the boat show where they had the lines looped through and brought around in a sort of continuous loop (now I wish I had gotten a picture of that). Biggest problem with that is when you are racing or in rough weather someone has to lean partially out of the cockpit to adjust them. If I use the stern rail it eliminates that problem.
