Santa came!

We'll the Admiral must have been in a great mood because under the tree was a new 9 inch Garmin plotter. It will take some effort to run the transducer cable into the nav pod, but I suspect it will be worth it. Our old one is super slow. It may end up in the digital dumpster.

I’ll be up there in January. If time matches yours I’ll be glad to help.

Oh you lucky dude. Although our 2005 vintage Garmin plotter still does an amazing job, I suspect yours is the latest cat's meow. Ditto running the cables to the cockpit pedestal. That was quite the chore, but well worth the effort.

Crap... in my little email window I thought this thread said "Santa Camel"...
 How disappointed you most be. :frown:

Santa hasn't been to my house yet. He's suppose to get here next week. Maybe he'll have a leftover he can unload on me. The plotter, that is, not a camel.

Merry Christmas to All and to All, Hang on tight! No, I seem to have gotten that quote messed up.

Anyway, Eileen insisted that I buy my own present (Christmas and birthday combined - Dec 25 & 28). Her recommendation was a new mainsail for our Celebrity. I contacted M & H Bartles Sailmakers in Maine and got the info just before Christmas and will order in the next 2 weeks.

RE: Santa came! Ken, of course you know about using a messenger line or wire to fish the new cable through where the old one is located. (Assuming the new one goes where the old one is.)

My Admiral put an Old Milwaukee Right-Angle cordless drill and a “Cranker” bit under the tree. She knows I want to be able to climb the mast by myself (and I don’t have the heart to tell her that this won’t do it). But it is a sweet tool and will make it a lot easier to find someone to help get me up the mast...heck, maybe the Admiral herself will be able to do it!

Happy Holidays,

Greg

Don’t take all day. Get in the car and dash to the boat. You have a brief weather window. Now to 3PM. Sure temps will be chilly. But man, it is a new Garmin 9 inch screen plotter.

I would want to measure and explore the possibilities. Granted I’d do it a few times before I grabbed a screwdriver and wire cutters. But the time spent on the boat thinking about the task would be wonderful.

Sitting on the boat would be fantastic. Looking at the @Sailavie1 sprit pictures from yesterday show the conditions in the yard. Not exactly a boat kinda month. :(

Not true. Some parkas + some mulled wine + a boat on it's trailer/stand + imagination & sense of fun.

Our boat is stored at our nephew's farm this year, otherwise I would have decorated it with xmas lights and done the above for fun. :D

Though.. it would be hard to operate a new plotter with thick gloves/mitts.

Yeah but.... There's this sail bag in the basement that has the newly recut main with the shirt-tail loose foot and the top number of battens that are now reconfigured to full length and have the sweet velcro locks, and a full set of high tech carbon battens and it's all sooooooooo depressing. :)

Amen to that. I was in Mexico last week (gift from mrs claus) and the only sailboats I saw in the bay were the fake pirate ship and party cats. I was craving just a couple hours on the water. New toys or not.

Well for sure not for the weak of spirit.
So some spirits and adventure forward. Put on some tunes and think warm thoughts.

Spent Christmas Day and night on the hook during the gale warning for our, and adjacent, weather zone(s), which turned into a SCA by early morning on the 26th. Not bad (15 - 22 kt) lying to in the well-protected LB Anchorage at Island White. I was toasty in the new socks Santa dropped off the night before!!!

Sorry to report no nautical thingies this season but a couple of n scale engines with DCC and sound. Trying to reprogram them is funnier than fiddlesticks. My way of programming is to stare those engines down .
One other thing. I am the expert on the tractor at plowing snow. That darn house of mine is bad for not getting out of the way. Too much coffee makes me nervous I guess.
