Just thought I would share these. Over cruiser's weekend at Catalina, the weather turned a bit worse than the forecast. Santa Anna's made for a superb run from Two Harbors down to Avalon, but once on the can, the fun began. Direct wind into Avalon got the swell up around 8 feet with sustained winds in the high 20s. We got weathered on departure day because it was too dangerous to leave the harbor. Those of you who are familiar with Avalon know how tight the moorings are. A 40 foot ketch broke her bow hawser and if not for some truly magnificent work by the harbor patrol, it would have been a mess. We were triple line rigged both fore and aft. They got a line on her as she turned sideways with two cruisers downwind only 30 feet away. Took these pics. They dont really show the true swell height but you can see the waves against the seawall. Those are two story buildings. Can you say "Mr Toad's wild ride"!
