@Peggie Hall HeadMistress had on multiple threads identified Raritan’s Sani-flex hose as the best product. It scores on two key issues. Ease of install and denial of smell by permeated hose odor.

If these are your concerns then buy the Sani-flex. Defender has in the past been reported a good source.
Yes, I’m going to do that
Defender is a great supplier

Raritan SaniFlex is the top rated sanitation hose for two reasons: it has a 10 year warranty against odor permeation and it's so flexible that it can be bent almost as tight as a hairpin (3.25" separation in a 180 degree bend) without kinking...making most re-hosing jobs a LOT easier. Available in 1" and 1.5"...Defender has it for about $10/ft and sell it by the foot (many retailers only offer 50' coils).

Thanks SO much
Greatly appreciated

slight thread hijack - why would the hose leaving the head be 1", and the other end that empties into the holding tank be 1.5" ?

I would suspect that either the head or the tank was changed at some point, without regard to matching the connections

1.5" has always been the standard size for both toilet discharge fittiings and holding tank inlet and discharge fittings. But Jabsco has always chosen to "march to their own drum" and their toilet discharge fittings have always been 1"...requiring Jabsco toilet owners to use adapters to connect their toilets to holding tanks. That's the bad news.

The good news is, Jabsco--and most other toilet mfrs too--now offer toilet discharge fittings that can be either 1" or 1.5" ...it just depends on how far up the fitting the hose has to go.

Hate to disagree with you but here's a picture of my old Jabsco in place before I replaced it with a Raritan PH ll Superflush.

The three white hoses shown are 3/4" dia. and the black discharge hose is 1-1/2" dia. It was removed from the toilet outlet fitting to the tank in one solid length. No adapters used from the factory. The corresponding fitting on the tank was 1-1/2" dia. The old permeated black hose was replaced with 1-1/2" Trident Premium #102 hose in one solid length.

Don't have any old Jabsco parts left lying around as I wanted no bad memories remaining, but the toilet bowl discharge had to be 1-1/2" dia.

The 1-1/2" outlet is also implied in the Jabsco installation manual :

Check the specs for versions of their manual toilet earlier than 2015. But the manual toilet isn't the only toilet Jabsco makes...check out the discharge port size for their macerating electric toilets...the 37010 is one example.

The main reason Raritan began offering discharge fittings that can use 1" or 1.5" was an accommodation to Jabsco owners who had 1" toilet discharge hoses.

Jabsco macerator pumps have 1.5" inlet fittings because holding tanks have 1.5" fittings. They have 1" discharge fittings because Jabsco thinks they should.

Yes, they are. But I would think that's because the bowl contents have been macerated (definitely not to be confused with masticated).

I don't doubt Jabsco may well have had a discharge size of anything you can imagine way back when. The manual in my previous post has a revision date of 2001 so we have no idea what previous manuals listed for discharge size. I know that my 1999 Hunter from the factory had a Jabsco manual with a 1-1/2" discharge. Who knows when they used 1" and maybe even less :yikes: !

After living with the new Raritan for the last few years, I'd rather forget the leaky Jabsco.

Our 1991 boat came with two Jabsco brand electric macerating toilets. A bit noisy when in use, but they still do the intended job. Replaced the aft head discharge hose with SaniFlex awhile ago due to a clog. I remain a happy Jabsco user.

The mascerator heads have 1” hose output. The logic behind this is that the waste is chopped up fine enough to be easily handled by 1” hose.
I have to agree with this. I’ve never had blockage problems with the head output lines.

If the hose could normally be done in 1.5 without additional fittings, adding a reducing coupler just adds a leak point. Why make it smaller than you have to?

Especially when you will eventually throw the jabsco head overboard

I have a 5/8” vent hose for the holding tank and can’t find a hose that resists permeation. What can I use?

Plan B: Upgrade your tank vent to 1" ...easy and inexpensive to do, thanks to a li'l gizmo called the Uniseal UNISEAL. A short piece of schedule 80 PVC becomes the new hose fitting...a new 1" open bulkhead thru-hull and some top quality 1" sanitation hose and you have a new 1" vent line that allows plenty of air exchange and also allows you to prevent blocked vents by putting a hose nozzle against it to backflush the vent line every time you wash the boat.

The mascerator head is fitted with a 1” discharge as standard (on the model I have)
And, on the tank, there is a 1” barb fitting.
So, it’s all straight through.
I don’t design heads… but Jabsco has some experience with this. They must have been comfortable with 1” port on a mascerator outlet. To be clear, the outlet on their stand alone mascerators is indeed 1”, with a 1.5” intake.
Lastly, the head install on the 49 is very tight where the hose exits. They actually fit an optional 90 degree swivel to get the hose route manageable
