But not as bad here, in Hampton Roads, Virginia, as folks are getting farther north.

I was fortunate in that the adjacent berth was vacant at my marina (Leeward in Newport News), so I was able to run lines from both sides. I checked her at high tide last night and she looked good. We've got floating piers. At that point, they had about another four feet to go before the whole marina floated off down the James River.

Hope all our East Coast S2 folks are doing as well. I'm worried about Bob in Massachusetts, specifically.

we've been monitoring the readings at Bishops Head, since that is nearest a friend in Deal Island on the Eastern Shore. They had twelve hours of 50+ average wind speed with gusts consistently over 60. He was very worried about the last high tide. I'm suspecting his power was lost at that point, as I've not heard how it went. Our winds have finally dropped below 40 and the rains have pretty much stopped.

Update

Luckily Winthrop Neck blocked all of the weather. From what I understand, one powerboat went adrift, but from what I understand everything else was fine, although I don't have specific details regarding my boat. I will try to make it aboard soon. I pulled all the canvas, wrapped some scrap leather around the pendants as chafing guards and kept my fingers crossed. Now if I only had some power at home...no water as we are on a well. I have a generator and will fire it up when I get home from work, but haven't gotten it properly wired into the house yet as the electrician told me I needed to do about $4000 worth of work to do so. The house needs the main panel replaced and a heavy line run to the cellar.

I hope everyone else did okay. In particular I am concerned about Calypso and others in the MD, NJ and NY areas.

s2 8.5 rocky river
Lake Erie - Cleveland - had 2 days of sustained NE and N winds over 30-40 with gusts between 50 even even 60 mph and waves of 20+. Water piled up in the west end of the lake and rose 2 - 4 feet here, probably more furhter west. Rivers were also running very high, the Rocky River about 4' too. Edgewater Marina in Cleveland lost at least 5 sailboats, and probably about the same number of powerboats. Rocky River lost at least one whole marina to the current. Only bright side of that was all but three boats had been pulled. Those three were swept downstream into the docks of the Westlake Marina, a nice dockaminium. Luckily I pulled early this year and have been on land for over two weeks. Even the furled jib made it through. (Knock on wood) Wind is still 25-30 with 40 mph gusts. I've been sailing here for 25 years and never saw it that bad for so long. Bend over folks. Our butts are going to get swatted with higher insurance rates.
