San Pedro (Southern California) sailors - head pump out stations?

Greetings SBO friends, those of you in the San Pedro marinas in particular!

I am gearing up - mentally and otherwise - for my very first trip to Catalina under sail. I'm taking my brother who has been many, many times before (in his powerboat!) and another sailing friend.

This past weekend, we stopped at the public pump out at the end of the docks as you come into the Cabrillo / Holiday Harbor / Cabrillo Way marina complex. It's the one on the right as you come into the harbor (the east side), on the Cabrillo Way docks, near the LA Fire and Police boats. That is our go-to pumpout, as the one on the other side of the fairway (on the Cabrillo Marina now-closed fuel dock) has been out of commission for at least two years.

Well imagine my disappointment when I discovered that a$$hat has broken off the f-ing pumpout fitting where it connects to the hose. Yeah.

So my small sailboat has a permanently-installed, pumpout-only Porta-Potty. I cannot pump overboard.

Without "resorting" to either paying the mobile people to come pump >1 gallon of liquid, or traveling all the way up the channel back to Wilmington - 45 minutes each way, easily, if not longer - is there another pumpout that is available in the San Pedro area?

Thanks in advance. Grrr ...

There's one (actually two) at Shoreline Marina to your port as you enter; i.e., on the long dock (A Dock) where the Rescue/Fire boats are parked. However, it's nearly 6 n.mi. from your location. But, there's also a fuel dock in there so might get two things done. There's one slightly closer on the public dock near the entrance to Rainbow Harbor. If you're going to Avalon Harbor, there is one there as well at Casino Pt., so we're told. Try calling over there to make sure.

Thanks, KG. Yeah LB is as far as Wilmington from us, and you get subject to headwinds on the way back to SP. If all else fails, I may end up taking a long ride to Wilmington.

I may don some medical gloves, and use a wet rag to make a jury rigged "seal" and just use the broken hose. It's all liquid anyway ... not looking forward to trying that plan out!

Try calling the guys in charge and have them come down and fix it. That worked for me once before in a another location. See the link I posted above in Post #2 for telephone numbers.

There's a pump out at Two Harbors too - it's on the fuel dock (If you can make it over).

You could also just use a hand pump into a 5 gal bucket.

Praise be, they repaired the fitting during the week, and I successfully pumped out today. Thanks everyone!
