Going to charter for a week in the middle of May in the San Juan islands. There's 3 of us so 28 - 30 ft. should be fine. Has anyone had any really good or really bad experiences with charter companies in this area? Any suggestions would be appreciated. We have no preferences in sailing from American or Canadian ports.

I'd take a look at Charters Northwest out of Friday Harbor (http://www.chartersnorthwest.com). Although it's been years since I've had any dealings with them, I found them helpful and reliable.

Anacortes?

Check out Anacortes Yacht Charters. We have friends who are using them and very happy.

We have chartered several times with Anacortes Yacht Charters and several others out of Anacortes. AYC has been consistently the best. Now they have a 'relationship' with the Moorings which is probably a good thing. If you are going further north, there is a good Sunsail base in Vancouver and Desolation Sound Yacht Charters out of Comox has been good. But in the San Juans, AYC is the best in my experience. San Juan Sailing is one of the best

I live near the San Juan Islands and have sailed among them for years. I also teach sailing, cruising and piloting for a number of years before retiring. I highly recommend San Juan Sailing as a chartering company. They have won awards and take their responsibilities very serious. Tell Paulett who runs the chartering and school that I sent you. I've added a link to their web page--take a look and if you want further information about the islands, feel free to get in touch with me. I live in Bellingham and Friday Harbor. My web address is leslieblackwell@comcast.net

Bellhaven Yacht Charter is also a great company!

Bellhaven is also located in Bellingham along with San Jaun Charters -- both are great charter companies and both offer excellent services (along with thier selection of boats). I've attached thier link for you.

San Juan Sailing

I charters last September out of San Juan Sailing. That was my first charter in the NW and they were great. We chartered a 35' Beneteau "Fresh Wind". The experience was very enjoyable and would do it again except, I bought a Beneteau Oceanis 370 for my own. See the web site link below.

San Juan Sailing

I have taken an ASA learn to sail cruise out of San Juan Sailing in Bellingham. They are top drawer business people who take great care to assure a good charter experience. The boat we were on wasn't in very good shape but it was safe and all of the necessary hardware worked well. But because of some of the small problems we had San Juan offered us a week at a nominal ($25/day) fee in the off season as a compensation for our problems. And we are going in April! They can be found on the web at; sanjuansailing.com. Good Luck Mike

Thanks...

for all your input. We're going with San Juan Sailing on a Pearson 31 for 9 days. We have a flotilla of 11-12 boats. Most are trailered but about 4-5 will be chartered. I can't wait to get started - it seems like it's been winter forever. If anyone has any bits of information or advice I'd love to hear it.
