If any of you sail out of SD, are there and restrictions or problems going in

They were stopping all boats and boarding a week a

I came back from Catalina on the 18th and they were stopping all boats outside Buoy 4/5 as a "que" to enter the harbor. The coast guard was contacted about a half hour out and they put our name on "the list" They acknowledged each boat and called us when we were allowed to proceed to bouy 8/9 for baording and inspection. They wanted picture ID's for everyone on board, registration/or documentation, and where we were destined in the harbor. We had about a two hour wait on Sunday night at 5:00PM. Can't say if they are still doing the same but I would certainly think so. A call to the Coast Guard would give you a more accurate answer. No stopping or inspection upon leaving port, only on returning. Hope this helps.

SD Harbor restrictions...

I was out on Monday and the CG is no longer boarding all incoming boats. They were very visible though and can decide to board you any time they want (as usual). The biggest change is that you are required to give navy vessels a 100 yard security zone at all times. This isn't too much of a problem, you probably already do but I'd be extra carefull around the big ships in the channel. As a boater I guess it's nice that they've relaxed things a bit but I sure hope they keep a sharp lookout...

SD Harbor Restrictions

The Coast Guard is no longer stopping all boats entering San Diewgo Harbor. However, they are requiring that you call them on channel 16 before entering the harbor and wait for clearance in the area of buoy #5. Hope this helps.

RESTRICTIONS

Sail out of the Norfolk Naval Base marina and the "exclusion" zone here is 500 yards. Been told that number is nationwide now, but obviously can't confirm. Like SD, LOTS of CG/military police boat activity around the Norfolk harbor entrance. Somewhat dimminished in the last week, but still there. Small price to prevent another Cole bombing or terrorist attack. Smooth Sailing! Tim (S/V "TIDE")

Military Base Marina Residents

What sort of restrictions if any are you dealing with? We may only transient the marina during normal hours. They keep a boom across the entrance that would not keep out a bunch of Girl Scouts. We have not been able to figure out what it is supposed to accomplish or prevent except to prevent us from enjoying our boats now that the weather has turned perfect. Don't get us wrong if there is a threat we need to do everything possible to counter it but doing something just to have done something is more dangerous than doing nothing.
