Finally, California Bound--a dream come true. Flying into San Diego on September 1 (9 PM arrival), to spend 4 days in this Southern California paradise I've dreamed of visiting for years. Had hopes to see the Pacific by my 40th birthday; missed it by 4 years--not too bad I guess. I'm on a shoestring budget, and was interested to know if any of you San Diego sailors had a sailboat slipped on the Bay, or knew of someone who does, who might be interested in renting out the boat for "living quarters only" for nights of September 1-4, 2001--was thinking along the lines of $200 for the 4 nights (not a 5-star rate I realize, but more than the local hostel), which is my present plan for accommodations. Living aboard would be a thrill! I realize it's a holiday weekend, so if all nights were not possible, a night or two would be a great treat! My female traveling companion, Connie, and I would love a daysail if you could recommend one from experience. Any suggestions would be appreciated. You can reach me via email at: sherrymiller57@yahoo.com Thanks Mates!

Ideas for Sherry...

We're planning on going cruising over that weekend so I'm afraid the boat isn't available but here's a few ideas. There are two charter/sailing clubs on Harbor Island, San Diego Yacht Charters (www.sdyc.com) and Harbor Sailboats (www.harborsailboats.com). They both let you sleep aboard when you charter one of their boats. You can sleep aboard and have a captain meet you the next morning for a sailing tour of the bay if you want. Harbor Sailboats also has a fleet of Capri 22s that you can charter for a daysail if you want. Now the bad news: SD is a pretty expensive place especially on a summer holiday weekend, not sure how well it would fit into your budget. Also they tend to book up well in advance. If that doesn't work out there are plenty of bay tours leaving from the downtown area on big power boats (not the same thing I know but better than nothing ;.) I hope you enjoy San Diego!
