I see it's up soon, the 8th through the 11th. Any comments on it? I went to the Long Beach show this year and it was a disappointment. I'm not so interested in the boats as much as the marine vendors which the LB show seriously lacked. I expect the pickin's will be slim this year for obvious reasons, but the LB slow has been sliding for years. Just wondering if there is reason enough to commit a day or two to this one.

I went to the St Pete show last month and the one thing which I should not have been but was most surprised about was the HUGE discounts being offered on boats. For the first time in my experience, the salesfolks actually seemed pushy. I was also quite surprised with the large number of vendors present but as this is the first year they combined power and sail, I have nothing with which to compare it.
Lots of jewelry vendors too!

Rick, the weather is supposed to be in the 70's next weekend. Do you really want to go to San Diego or Catalina???? As long as the Santa Ana winds aren't blowing, I'm off to Catalina.

The LB boat show has been such a dissapointment the last few years that we stopped going.

Um, you have a good point, Karl!

I think I might go to the Boat Show on Saturday. Weather reports Santa Ana this weekend. We'll see if it happens.

Brian, just think of the adventure you'll have flying over to Catalina on a Santa Ana wind. Lot more fun!

I know, Karl. I have been dreaming of an easterly out to Catalina and a westerly returning. LOL

Come on Brian; no guts, no glory! First drink is on me out at Isthmus Cove. I make a mean mai tai, although it may not be quite warm enough for one yet.

Rick, I keep my boat at the Marriott in SD so I've been several times. Seems to me the vendors are all the same every year. Nothing great.

Karl, I think I am going to wait until the Santa Margarita Yacht Club at Camp Pendleton does their outing to Catalina. Since this would be my first trip I would feel more comfortable in a group of boats. Then... well that's a spinnaker of a different color. LOL

Both the Vancouver Int'l and Seattle Int'l Boat Shows have always combined power & sail, there are very few sail only boat shows these days.
If you do some research you will discover that boat show attendance has been dropping over the years while at the same time costs for vendors has been increasing hence the dismal displays at LB and price discounts. There are fewer buyers in todays depressed economy and less discretionary income to spend.

Haven't been to the LB show in years, since they started including powerboats, (not that there's anything wrong with powerboats. They're great party platforms, and I may go over to the dark side on a trawler some day)

Larry, there is no "dark side" or boating. If you go to powerboats, just do not throw your boating knowledge and experience to the way-side. I have great respect for responsible power boaters. It's the idiots on the little weekender speedboats and PWC operators that chap my hide.

San Diego Boat Show OK

I went to the show Thursday. Spent about three hours. Vendors were maybe a bit better than Long Beach (which effectively lowered my expectations). If you are serious about buying, there are some real deals available on everything from clothes to dinghies to gear to boats. A dinghy I was looking at was 1/3 off and since I had looked at it before, it was legit. Folks and manufacturers are clearing out inventories.

Well, the wife and I will go to the show on Saturday. Going to ride the Coaster (train) down into San Diego. Then we'll walk over to the Convention Center. We'll let all ya'll know how it goes.

Y'all have a nice weekend, ya hear?
