Just letting you know that Sam's Club is now charging $15/battery for core charge. OUCH.

They have always charged a fee. If you return the old batteries they will return the $15 per core. They are trying to get people to recycle for a reason...also if you return the old battery then it costs you nothing but they can recycle and make more profit overall on the bulk sale of a old battery which still has worth.

I tried telling them these are a new installation and I don't have batteries to return. I was told that's the way it is. If you want the battery you pay the unadvertised fee. Thank you for your business.

It's still the lowest price around.

Macgregor & Endeavour 26S and 37 Utah's Canyon Country
We are 140 miles from a Sam's where we live and use to have a membership, but got rid of it as we didn't use it that much. The Endeavour is near Port Charlotte, FL and needs 4 batteries before we go out. We had considered getting a new membership, but then I checked Batteries to go in Englewood and they had Trojans for $93.00 and PowerTron for $73.00.

From what I can find the Trojans are rated 225 amps and 115 min. @ 75 amps. The PowerTron are 200 amps and 105 min. @ 75 amps.

So by the time we paid membership fees I'm wondering if we are saving any money. The battery store says they sell a lot more PowerTrons due to the cost. We will have a lot more battery and solar on the Endeavour than the Mac and have the same use on both so I'm starting to think the PowerTron are all we need.

The boatyard (Charlotte Harbor Boat Storage) has a couple golf carts they use in the yard and one day a guy was there servicing them and I asked what his battery prices where. He had Trojans and PowerTron also and had the same pricing as the battery store and would deliver to the boat and help me get the old ones out of the boat and the new ones in. Considering we have to haul the batteries 10 feet up and I don't want anymore hernia operations guess who we are going to use :). I have his name and phone, so if anyone is in the Port Charlotte area and wants it PM me.

I'm not saying Sams isn't a good deal, but there are other options out there,

that's where I bought mine. Good prices, fresh stock, good core credits.

Jim,

Another option would be to drop off the old batteries at a local battery place, service station or K-mart. Most will take them, as they can re-sell them to the different battery build places such as Interstate etc., which is a low-end company.
Never purchase batteries from them.

If buying new batteries, the AGM's are the best out there for now. Costs alittle more but I get about 6 years out of them. Easy to charge & they're not supposed to lose more than 5 % of total charge per month. They can't be turned upside down, but if they are on your boat, you have bigger problems anyway.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT BUY THE UNSEALED TYPE. ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE IN A CLIMATE SUCH AS FLORIDA. Some will disagree, but I never have power problems.

They have come out with the new DRY batteries that claim to hold their power for 7 years. My school's still out on this for now, but I read they are making more different size batteries available. I do believe as with any new line, the price is probably alot higher.

This was a new addition to existing starter bank. Didn't have a battery to turn in and was surprised at the doubling of core charge. Looking for an old battery from friends to get my $15 back.

Not sure about other states but California requires a tax on the core charge and the tax is not returned when you bring back the old core for refund...
