Last year I painted the bottom for the first time. I put two coats on with a small nap roller. It took less than a gal. of bottom paint. This year I used a longer nap roller, and one coat took almost the whole gallon. My questions are, has anyone else done this, and does this mean that one coat will do it? Did I do some wrong? Is one gal. enough for a 25 ft. boat? Thanks for any help.

Paint

I use I gallon to put 2 coats on my H240. It takes the whole gallon. The longer nap roller probably applied it thicker than the short nap. I would think two thinner coats would be smoother and dry faster, however I don't think it will make a difference on the level of barnacle and slime protection.

Paint Weight

Just remember, when you hoist that gallon of paint and use it, you are adding that much weight to the boat. A single coat, in my experience, is just under a half gallon, say, about one and a half pints.
