Anyone know of sources selling salvaged parts from totaled sailboats? Winches, Clutches etc. In particular, I'm looking for a small Lewmar self tailing winch, and an air conditioner but there are surely other things that I could use as I upgrade/ maintain the boat.

totaled boats

serch under insurance/boats/ totaled. I've found boats that sell for 100 to 500 for the whole boat. owner is responsible for removal of boat from the yard. strip all parts ( ones you want + all other parts to sell at a swap meet). rent a backhoe, chainsaw and dumpster and trash the rest. my guess is for 2000 dollars you get your parts+ a trip to florida( dont bother with Katrina boats, insurance industry will be so overwhemled with housing claims that boats will take a back seat for some time). After your home the sale of the parts should make up a good portion of the overall cost.

www.sailorman.com they have a selection that is always changing. There's a place in Pensacola,FL called "Scurvy Dog" that I've been in that had a ton of used gear, sorry I do not have phone or address handy. The website <yachtsalvage.com> has entire boats for sale, but you must buy the whole enchelada.

Rick Webb - H23.5 parts

Rick - I have a 1995 H23.5. I saw a 1996 in a storage lot last year and noticed that the transom rail on the 1996 is twice as high, and the swim ladder has an extra rung to match. I made some measurements and I'm pretty sure I could swap mine for the higher ones. Do you have any idea if it's possible to find a wrecked 1996 H23.5 with these parts intact? I did a bunch of web searches last year and phoned a couple of places in Florida but didn't even come close. ...RickM...

I Had One Made

I think maybe that the factory made them that way when stern rail seats were factory installed. I took my stern rail off and had a taller one fabricated with rings on it and now the lifeline runs from the seat to the rail instead of all the way across. I was thinking of having the extra rung on the ladder But I think that may be tougher to do.
