Catalina 36 Marblehead

Hello All,

I am looking for parts for a 1986 Catalina 36 Footer. The boat came ashore in a hurricane recently.

I would love to hear from anyone with info on:

· Rudder
· Strut
· Propeller Shaft

Please contact me if you have these parts, or know a salvage yard that may have them.

Thanks!
Rob

I think you may find that your boat is too new & too expensive / worth too much for someone to have parted out another C 36 for parts. If there is anything salvageable in regards to your rudder, then perhaps u can have a good fiberglass repair yard rebuild the existing rudder & tube, or use it as a template for a new one. It will cost U big bucks to build a new rudder from scratch, but U gotta have one, right? As far as the strut & shaft, they are a lil more generic; The shaft stock is solid Stainless steel rod, so it should be available by the footage length necessary from a marine engine rebuilder/ shop in your area. The strut is another item that I would try to repair if possible, because it is solid bronze & way expensive to have cast as a custom made piece. I would check with Catalina Direct to see what is available. Hopefully U got some good insurance $$ for the damage, as I've heard of estimates of 5 k or more for new rudder replacement.

Good luck on your repairs. I would make sure that whomever rebuilds your rudder, & shaft makes doubly sure that the bearings are very tight in alignment so that the rudder tracks correctly, and that the engine shaft is perfectly aligned to the stuffing box & trans., or gear wear or overheating will occur. I believe that there were some older posts on rudder & bearing repairs. I would also scrutinize your stearing quadrant & cables for any potential damage before use. I thought that we would be doing some repairs on our Cat. after Irene swept through, but it was our house that got beat up, over 100 miles inland!
