I do not know about carpeting on overhead and sides of hull as being the "rage" in the 70's and 80's, and I do not recall seeing the appearance of the carpeting until about the mid-80's, when it was employed as an inexpensive way, at least with respect to O'Day, to finish off their boats when the company was about to fold along with Pearson and others following imposition of the boat "luxury" tax which was subsequently, albeit too late, repealed. In all it turned out to be a lousy deal for consumers; great nesting place for discoloration and mold.
