Salt creep at swageless fitting?

Was down at the boat to pull the port upper chain plate. I noticed all the shrouds had dried salt creeping up out of the fitting What causes this? I hosed down the fittings and the wires. . .Never seen this before, and I haven't been sailing this year. . .it was windy last week?

New rigging this past spring, new Hi-Mod fittings assembled per the manufacturer (no sealant).

I can't answer your question

but I just did a rig refit with Steve Smith lending a hand. He had me melt beeswax down into the upward-facing swages at deck level using a heat gun while the rig was still new.

I can't speak to oxygen-starvation but the idea was to keep contaminants out. Apparently he's been doing some longer term testing at his shop.

Hayn recommends not putting sealant in their fittings so any water can drain. Just hit them with fresh water when washing down after a sail. When not using the boat rain will take care of it.

I guess as with all things nautical

the best answer is 'it depends.'

If the fitting is self draining the best response may indeed be to apply a fresh water rinse.

If it's not, maybe not.

Not sure if it is self draining. . .I see no drain holes, but it is open and hollow. . .I guess water would run down, fill the fitting then dry out?

Just checking. . .sometimes I think I'm too paranoid about things to own something like a sailboat
