Anyone have any idea on the cost of replacing the salon cushions of a 1980 C30? The current cushions haven't been changed since the boat was new. Jim

Check the factory first.....

...then shop around. A Catalina 27 replacement set of interior cushion covers and foam runs about $1,000 from the factory.( Catalinayachts.com) I'm guessing the 30 is a little more. I had a professional upholsterer quote me a similar price for custom set. If you're handy, you can make your own. Many of the owners have done so. You'll save a lot on labor, that's for sure. Use the old covers for patterns.

about 3K with all new foam and covers

I did all the cushions on my 81' C30. I had a non marine upolsterer do it & saved a couple hundred $. You could get it done even cheaper, but we went with top of the line foam. One suggestion: let the upholsterer go to the boat & take measurments of the boat. We used the cushions as templates & they didn't fit nearly as well! The old ones deform & compress over the years.

From Catalina

I checked and for an 86 c30, it was $1586 with new foam and covers, 1286 for just the covers. The only downside was that you only had 2 fabric options as that is all they could guarantee having on hand. I will say that they were extrememly courteous & I had my sample swatches in about 3 days. (I also checked with a local shop & tried to bid them down against catalina's quote, they actually told me that if I could get them done for that, then I had better do it before something changes. The local shop said they could not compete at all. They wanted $80/hour for labor and said each cushion would take a minimum of 2-3 hours. You can do the math. At least they were up front with me.)

Foam

Hi , I just had my int.redone as well. I am sure the Catalina int. will be fine but.. I spent about 15 hundred Can. and that did not include the aft. cushions. We used real high grade foam and heavy material. Foam can be the diffrece here. One more thing to concider is 5 or six inch foam where you sleep. We sleep in the 'V' berth so thick foam may be to hight. I wish we had a bit thicker foam as we had to go with the 5 inch med weight. If you want some pics of the int .... bradman.1@home.com

$2,100 for mine

We paid $2,100 for all new fabric using the existing foam in the v-berth and q-berth, new foam in the settee seats and backs. Catalina quoted us about $1,600 for all new upholstery and foam (a good price!) but we didn't like the 2 fabric choices available nor having to send the old cushions to the factory and being cushionless for 4-6 weeks. We also had some end bolsters made to dress up the settees. I agree about the problem using the existing fabric/foam for patterns. The upholsterer had to take some of the cushions back that just weren't quite right fit-wise. At least he was good enough to redo them.... Chris

$850

It cost us $850 to have new apholstry for our 1983 C30. This did not include new foam. Reused the vinyl on the back because it was in good shape. Labor was $18/ cushin. The rest was material. Ron Koenig " Playpen"

Consider doing it yourself

I needed all of my cushion covers replaced on my '89 C30. The foam was in good shape. When i got quotes that ranged from 2400. to over 3000. I went and bought a good used sewing machine, picked out the Sunbrella fabric, velcro and buttons and set up the mini ping pong table up in the family room. Sewing a lot of straight lines while watching TV is no big deal. I was done in 40 hours and they are perfect. it cost 650.

Rob did his own

I think that was his first sewing job ever & they turned out ok. Not perfect but MUCH cheaper than having someone else do it & they looked a heckuva lot better than before! LaDonna

cushions from catalina

I mailed my covers t to Catalina from my 1981 c-30. The cost of all cushions and mattresses was 1650- I'm very pleased with results. You choose from the fabrics that are now being put on new Catalinas.
