Measure the luff and the foot of the sails off of your boat and get the measurements off of the other sails and see. some sails have a bigger roach than others so take into consideration the size of the roach so it clears the backstay. Check the sail lofts for used sails if you need to find the specific size sails on a certain boat. sometimes they list what boat they came off of.

Yes it is possible.....

...learn how sails are measured at http://cruisingdirect.com ... Also, most sailmakers have a database for production type sailboats with the essential dimensions. There are many other factors in sail design than luff, foot and leech, so you need to learn as much as you can by perusing the various sailmaker websites. Most of them have extensive education sections. If you're looking to buy a used sail you can start by finding one similar in size to what you need then have a sailmaker re-cut the sail to fit your boat. Go to Google.com and enter "sailmakers" in the search box to get you started. http://www.google.com/

If they are not too

long on the foot or the luff then they "can" be used. If they should be smaller than they might be then it will be as though you were sailing with a reef. But they will work, just not as well as a properly fitted sail.
