Got an email from Keith wondering if I could give an update on the genoa that we bought last spring, etc., so here goes:
Last spring I bought a 135 genoa and CDI furler from North Sails Direct, not to be confused with North Sails. From what I can tell, they use the same loft, have the same warranty support, but the NSD setup is designed for people who pretty much know what they want and need minimal support after the purchase, while looking for the best price. I think that describes many of the sailors that hang out on this website.
I worked with a guy named Dan, who has retired now, and his accounts have been taken over by Nate Merrill (nate@direct.northsails.com). We also bought a sail cover from them, which was very good quality for $200. I thought the price was very competitive (hundreds less than the normal North Sails online quotes) and we were very happy with the performance of the sail this past season. North offers a one year warranty on the sail, even if it is damaged from extreme conditions, which is nice. It seemed to be well constructed, and it's cut was exactly right for the CDI furler on our boat.
