I have made many purchases from sailrite thru the years including a sewing machine, fabric, hot knife, etc. My shipments are always correct and I have been very satisfied with the product quality. I purchased a deluxe hot knife for fabric & cordage a couple years ago and I am very pleased with the purchase. I don't think that the knife is made for cutting foam as the blade length is not long enough. Using it to cut fabric, 3 strand, & braided line has been exceptional. Hope everything works out with getting the items that you ordered. Might try using an electric kitchen knife for the foam.

Yeah... I've never heard ANY complaints about Sailrite... and a lot of us have used and recommended them for years. So you should expect a bit of defensiveness from the group. Good luck on your projects.

I’m not into foam projects and I was kinda wondering about if it could be used for that myself. The electric kitchen knife sounds like a good idea.

Wonder how they cut the Pick-’n-Pluck foam used for things in cases? I’ve got some camera gear that could used some protection so might give it a try someday. Anyone ever tried it???

If you have any kind of garment district in your city you can buy a hot knife there for half the price. Hot knife really does make cutting and sewing Sunbrella much easier. For the foam I use a bread knife.

I too think you are giving the OP a hard time. Although I have not had any difficulties with Sailrite, many of you seem to be jumping to conclusions w/o all the information. We don't know what his attitude was when he called them, perhaps it was "hat in hand". Then I don't have all the info either b/c I did not see the original title. Was it Boycott Sailrite or something like that?

For the OP, here is another mail-order source for bimini parts, etc. if you really want to go to another source, try overtons.com. I was looking at bimini covers there yesterday. Ant they have the option of just buying the frame.

It is funny to read this, the OP already said he had an electric knife for cutting foam and wanted the hot knife for cutting fabric, which it is designed for.

So maybe we all need to cut each other some slack. Less critical of vendors and less critical of each other? Just my $.02 worth.

I'm sorry to hear of your experience with Sailrite. I think it was unusual. I've bought many many things from them (including a sewing machine) and the service and attitude has always been fantastic. I have found places I can buy for less but buy from them because of the great service. I'm sure this was just an unfortunate experience. We all make mistakes.
Good luck with your projects !
Bob

"Kitchen knife"? I have one in my tool chest. Next time you want to skin the coat off a lifeline...
Thanks for the tip. Did it with a sharp knife and it was shear tedium. Still have half to go and will try electric knife.
