I swore two years ago I would not lose sleep to this site's madness again. I am home tomorrow so I registered for the Baltic race. I know some sailors here use this to get through the winter blues.

My username is Recess.

Verboten here, though I haven't raced on SOL since last spring. Been doing Virtual Sailor instead as it at least gives the appearance of being on deck. Circumnavigating virtual Vancouver Island at the moment.

Will this winter never end?! 8^D

Virtual Sailor does look cool. Do they have any races or just single person simulation?

I'm not aware of any races. There was another online racing program besides SOL that's more like VS but I can't remember what it's called. My system wasn't beefy enough and I didn't want to fork over the $ so I didn't purchase.

You can sail > 1 boat at a time with VS and switch between them. I'm running 2 VOR 60's and a Tri on my Vancouver Island run at the moment.

Saay! that looks cool!
(I'm so weak. And I thought I was the crazy one with my railroad simulations.)

I like sailonline.org, but if you really want to drool, go to http://www.sailx.com the 3D sailing is awesome. Look at the quick tutorial and jump in and race as a guest. You do have to download their web viewer but it takes less than a minute. Once you are in the 3D screen hit F11 to have the browser go full screen, then click the Z button to zoom in a few times until the water becomes translucent and you can see the currents flowing past the boats. The races are a blast, very realistic and just last about 8 minutes. My wife thinks I am a bit "touched" because I have been racing there so much in the last three days.
