seems like a lot of recommendations for sailnet on this site recently. didnt they go out of business about a year ago and take some of our members monies???? whats up. mike ps. what was the final deal with the canvas shop and the guy from detroit while im thinking of vendors

Why not buy from Phil and support...

Re:Sailnet.com, they are very much in business and sold me my spinnaker about 8 months ago, I was very impressed with them, the quality and the customer service,hence my mentioning them at least twice in the last week. Cant answer your comment about them taking peoples monies but do know that they are very much in business so I suspect you may be confusing them with another company, my humble opinion. The purpose of these free formums is to foster the exchange of useful information between sailors, something that is sorly needed and very much appreciated.

The Sailnet that 'took' people's money is gone - liquidated in bankruptcy court when they failed financially and could not meet their obligations. The sailnet that exists today is just the name that was bought out of bk court by another company, an online chandlery. Like others, I'd look here first too, but taring today's sailnet with someone else's (who is long gone) bad business operation is probably not fair either. OC

was run (into the ground) by Sam and Cheryl Boyle. They now run "SailJazz" (www.sailjazz.com). It is a very limited online discussion group and minimal chandelry. Interestingly, it continues it's long association with Air Force Sails, a quality sailmaker IMHO, but without Bill James. Bill James, has a very good reputation for providing helpful service, is now associated with FX Sails and the "new" Sailnet. The "old" Sailnet did seem to leave a lot of customers high and dry when it folded. The "new" Sailnet buyers had to know they would inherit some modicum of ill-will when they bought the name "Sailnet" and re-started the business. I have not, however, heard of any serious complaints about the "new" Sailnet. As far as SailJazz is concerned, however, I think the term caveat emptor applies...

internet retailer that has purchased a lot of internet vendors I have used in the past like Broken Leg Dave's and others whose names escape me.

Just my one small recent experience with Sailnet, but I placed an order and asked for them to note "Hold at UPS terminal for pickup" in the shipping instructions. They had a huge problem with this; I had to find the address of the local UPS terminal for them, got 2 phone calls and emails from Marine.com, saying as how they didn't ordinarily do the "hold for pickup" thing,etc. In the future, I'm sticking with great places like Defender. So much easier, with no hassles.
