Anyone know what is happening with SailNet? I placed an order 2 weeks ago and have heard nothing from them. I tried their 800 number and it does not seem to be working correctly. When you push the buttons for transfer, you go to a never never land. By the way, the item I ordered is not on the HOW store or I would have gone there if the price was right. I guess I will go to Defender.

...so I doubt if they're out of business. It could have been a glitch in your order compounded by a problem with their phone system. Did you get any kind of confirmation email after you placed the order? That's SOP on the web.

Got Confirmation.

I have tried to check on the order by the order number and it comes up with the item ordered but no further information. I have sent an email to them but have not received a reply and that was 3-4 days ago. Does anyone have another way to contact them?

Watch out for Defender!

I had a HORRIBLE experience with an order from Defender and would never order from them again. At the time I regularly had to spend over 30 minutes on hold to ever talk to someone. (My phone has a timer on it and I started noting the wait after a few calls.) The details (for those who care): I was ordering an A/B refrigeration unit. Defender said it was in stock and would be shipped in 3 days. After several days/then weeks' delay, they determined it was not in stock and placed a special order with A/B. After a few more days/weeks, I contacted A/B directly off this site. A/B determined Defender had never placed the order. Meanwhile, The $700 charge was on my credit card from day 1. After many frustrating calls to Defender, they finally agreed to credit my account. Then, they goofed that and I had to get into a shouting match over the phone to finally get the credit. (I had already notified my credit card company.) Bottom line, they won't get any business from me. (And my West Advantage account shows I spend way too much $$$ on my boat.) A poor sailor.

Defender

I purchase from Defender quite regularly. Their warehouse is in New London (Waterford) and if you go there you can see what they have in stock and get some excellent deals when they have warehouse sales. Line remnants are always available at great prices. They also have a price matching policy where they will match advertised prices from competitors. i ended up getting about 200.00 off a whisker pole using that. I never used their catalog sales so i can't comment on your experience.

Thanks Ron

That is the number I have been using and it does not work properly once you get into their system. I have tried several times and get dropped from their system. Thanks again.

Defender Rip-Off

You can't be too careful when dealing with the Defender order department. They always like to leave the total sale price open-ended, particularly the shipping and handling cost. Having been burned a few times with mail order purchases, particularly from businesses in Chicago, New York, and New Jersey, I insist on nailing down all costs so there are no surprises. With regard to my orders from Defender it is really difficult to get a bottom line/total cost out of them and even when you do they've come back for more. If you order something I recommend you get a cost for shipping ahead of time from UPS or FedEx, or what ever company you're going to use. The rates should be available on-line in weight increments. Also, always get the name of the person you talked to and an order reference number and write down everything discussed for future reference. Ensure all cost elements and their magnitude/not to exceed amounts have been discussed. The savings may look good initially but after being stuck with open ended shipping/handling and other costs any savings may quickly disappear.

Sailnet works for me . . .

I ordered some new sheets, a windex, and several blocks Tuesday of this week and received them today (Friday). Sailnet is very responsive, prices are better than West Marine . . .and shipping is free . . .

Defender

I've placed several mail orders with Defender in the past year and have had no problems whatsoever. Now compared to my experiences with West Marine, like the time they shipped me four anchors and then wanted me to pay shipping costs back. Guess they all screw up once in a while. Try this number...

I found this number under the Sailnet Advertising section: (843) 972-2010. You might try it during business hours on a weekday to try to get to the person you want to talk with. My 2 cents: I have always had good luck with Sailnet and Defender. Ken Palmer

Aching back

West Marine once sent me 200#s of BB chain by mistake it sat where it was delivered until picked up by a trucker. It took 2 months to get rid of it. Yes they all make mistakes, except me of (coarse).

Called Sailnet on Friday

I called them on the 800# to check my order this past Friday. Used option 7 (accounting) and got right through. I found out the wrong expiration date for my credit card was entered (I don't make mistakes either <grin>). The guy I talked to fixed it right then, checked to make sure the card ran through ok, and gave me their internal tracking number for my order. The next day I checked the web and saw the order status was updated with a UPS tracking number. I was very impressed with their service so far and with the timely updates on their web page. Good luck, Jim Covey

Thanks to all.

I received a response from SailNet and they will be shipping my order later this month. Seems that it is in a big order they expect to receive by the end of the month.
