Yes, I have the book, but in this case, there are things that would be tough, or very time consuming to do without a loft and machine stitching. If you are serious about sailing and plan to be doing it for a while I'd recommend getting th book "The Sailmakers Apprentice" $25. A lot of general maintenance is within your capabilities with just a sewing palm and needle and thread.
Bill, if you were close by I'd just drop my sail off at your place.I do my sail repair while watching TV. Most of that "machine" stitching that requires lots of "muscle" is really hand stitching as most machines can't do it.
Course it is someone else’s time and your money at that point.
Have they done work for you? Any comments on quality, price, turn-around time?
Thanks! That's the kind of recommendation with detail I can use. I will probably not go there (too far for me), but at least it starts to give me an idea of what things cost. It's rather far from Mass but I have used Sailors Choice in Amityville NY also on Long Island. Jim is a heck of a nice guy and my family has been dealing with that loft for years. I had both sails serviced and cleaned, new tell tales on both, reinforced batten pockets, a new UV cover for my 150 roller and my mainsail cover reinforced for about $500.
They have done work for us. The first time was 4 years ago for some one design sails that I needed in short order for a Father's Day gift. They accommodated our schedule and did a fantastic job - price was not the cheapest, but we like to keep our business local.Have they done work for you? Any comments on quality, price, turn-around time?
Thanks,

If you can get a little further North there are plenty of good ones up here around Portland. Hallet Sails in Falmouth, Bayview Sails in Yarmouth and Maine Sailing Partners in Freeport are all top quality and the owners all have racing backgrounds..Have they done work for you? Any comments on quality, price, turn-around time?
Thanks,
