Sailkote - is it a Gimmick??

My 1999 240 has not yet tasted the water. My local boatyard (the only one) has suggested not painting and epoxy barrier but instead recommended Liquid Speed and doing the barrier and paint a few years down the road. I think that Liquid Speed by VC is off the Market. In my search for something along the same line I cam across Sailkote which is a "dry" lubricant. Any thoughts??

Do what you want but.....

the barrier coat is what prevents blisters. If the boat is not going to stay in the water then this is not as important. But the barrier is what keep the water out of the glass.I may be wrong but sailkote is just a spray on lubricant?

I use sailkote on small parts and sail track. I read the can and it does mention hulls as a use but I think they are meaning for it to be used on racing hulls that are not in the water for extended periods of time. I can't imagine it lasting very long under water or fighting marine growth in moderate to heavy fouling areas. I could be wrong but I have used it for other things for awhile now and it wears off. Would be extremely expensive to try to coat the entire bottom of boat.Dan
