It will be about 4 weeks before I can have my O'Day 25 hauled out of the water to have the centerboard re-installed. In the meantime, is it safe to sail without it? I understand heading into the wind won't be as easy, but I don't plan to take it out if it's real windy on the lake, just a pleasant 5-10 mph wind at most. Is this is a bad idea? I just don't think I can make it 4 weeks without sailing.

Sailing without the centerboard
I have a 79 Oday 25 and sailed it in Tampa Bay and out into the Gulf, as well as sailing regularly on the lake here in Kissimme without dropping my centerboard. You can't point as well, and if it pretty windy you'll slide more, but other than that it's not a problem. My board was stuck in the up position, but I sailed anyway for about 6 months until I got around to fixing the problem. Bill

One caution
Make sure that with out the center board the water does not come up through the tube. You may want to plug the top of the tube. I agree it is very sailable with the board up. I sail that way 90% of the time. r.w.landau

R.W., Where exactly is the top of the tube? I see what looks like a tube running horizontally beneath the cabin sole, but there is no obvious hole. Eric

Got it. I believe I know what tube you're talking about now. As it turns out, a buddy and I sailed my boat today in pretty rough conditions, close-hauled into the wind with just the mainsail most of the day, and I never once noticed any difference without the centerboard. There is a very tiny leak coming out of the centerboard housing in the bilge, which I plan to seal up next time I'm out there.
