Jim, Does sailing the Hunter 430 in strong winds (20 kts+)put excessive strain on the B&R rigging without a backstay? Thanks Peter

Jib only sailing

Pete, I'll be interested to see what answer you get from Jim or someone else. I also have a 430 and have had the same concerns. Would appreciate it if you'll let me know if you get an answer. My E-mail address is SAILBURG @ AOL.com. Thanks, Pete S/V KAILANI

whats the Backstay have to do with it.

Need to answer that question because then and only then can you appreciate the B&R rig and it's structural integrity. (Funny B&R objected to us using the rig with a backstay.) In the owners manual that comes with the new boats we have a definitive statement that is quite detailed. You can call us to fax this document to you if you don't have the manual. I've sailed the 430 in just about any condition you might encounter in 5,000+ miles with different models and found the rig to be capable and reliable. Peter whats your question about downwind with a jib. Have done it downwind with a spinnaker several times. Whats the question? JB
