I am planning a trip to panama city to sail for a week. Actually I am trying to decide b/t working the logistics of sailing from pensacola to panama city (i like the idea of cruising somewhere, but am unsure of the timing and getting back to the trailer), or just sail around panama city and then maybe trailer to pensacola and sail some more...anyone who has any suggestion would be appreciated. Also, I am hoping to do some fishing, but am unsure if a license is needed. Does anyone know if a license is a must and, if yes, where to get one? Thanks, Richard

Gotta have a license

You can get a 3 day or a 7 day (or at least could a couple years ago? Can get at walmart or just about any tackle store. Half Hitch in PC Beach is great tackle/bait store that sells licenses. It is about 120 miles from Penscacola to PC by hwy. You can sail the entire trip on inland bays and intercoastal waterway. I would say allow a min of 3 days for a one way trip unless you plan on motoring quite a bit. Unless you have a driver who does not want to sail, getting trailer from start point to destination point is a big problem. Check out Pensacola Shipyard Marina website. This would be a grear place to depart from and leave you vehicle for several days. They may also know about some shuttle services for vehicles. Post your date of arrival and someone may have more info.

fishing lic

fla has both fresh water and saltwater lic, so if near fresh water and catch a salt water fish, a saltwater is needed, if in salt and catch fresh, fresh water lic is needed, so get both...fish can NOT be cleaned while onboard unless camping/overnighter on boat, 'cruising' etc, with cooking/sleeping on board, not just a row boat and sleeping bag. even the 'overnight/cruising excuse is illegal, but fla marine partol will allow this execption and overlook the law, if they want to, and usually do allow unless pervoked.
